15-year-old Sammy Smith To Drive For KBM’s Super Late Model Program

Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) announced today that 15-year-old Sammy Smith will compete in a 20-plus race schedule that will see the talented teenager drive the famed No. 51 Super Late Model in a variety of events around the country this season, spanning several different series. Smith’s Camry will carry primary sponsorship from TMC Transportation, the industry’s premier flatbed carrier.

Smith will kick off his season with the 2020 World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna (Fla.) Speedway, at which he won the championship in the Pro Late Model division last season. The following week, he will join KBM owner-driver Kyle Busch for the Star Nursery 150 at The Bullring at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway. Smith will enter events in the CARS Super Late Model Tour, the ARCA Midwest Tour, the ARCA CRA Super Series, the Southern Super Series and several marquee events will be included on his slate.

The Iowa teenager picked up three victories in the Pro Late Model division en route to his championship in the 2019 World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna. In addition to his limited schedule in Pro Late Models last season, Smith tallied five top-five and six top-10 finishes en route to an average finish of 4.2 across his six CARS Late Model Stock Tour starts. Prior to last season, Smith spent three seasons competing in Legend Cars, where he amassed 31 career victories and 109 top-five finishes. He finished fourth in the U.S. Legend Cars Semi-Pro national championship standings in 2018 after compiling 23 victories and an average finish of 3.9 across 65 starts.

“I appreciate the opportunity to drive for KBM,” Smith said. “I’m looking forward to learning from one of the best in the business and I want to thank TMC Transportation for all of their support.”

Notable wins for the KBM Late Model team since its inception in 2007 include: Wisconsin All-Star 100 at the Milwaukee Mile (Kyle Busch 2008), Red Bud 300 at Anderson Speedway (Kyle Busch 2009 and Raphael Lessard 2018), Winchester 400 at Winchester Speedway (Kyle Busch 2009, Erik Jones 2013 & 2014 and Noah Gragson 2017), Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway (Noah Gragson 2018, Kyle Busch 2009 & 2017 & Erik Jones 2013), SpeedFest at Lanier National Speedway (Kyle Busch 2009 & 2010), SpeedFest at Watermelon Capital Speedway (Kyle Busch 2012), Rowdy 251 at Berlin Raceway (Kyle Busch 2010, 2011 & 2012), All-American 400 at Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville (TJ Reaid 2010), Slinger Nationals at Slinger Super Speedway (Kyle Busch 2011), the Oxford 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway (Kyle Busch 2011), Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown at Richmond International Raceway (Kyle Busch 2013), the Howie Lettow Memorial at the Milwaukee Mile (Kyle Busch 2013 and Erik Jones 2014), the Rattler 250 at South Alabama Speedway (Christopher Bell 2015), the Winter Showdown at Kern County Raceway (Kyle Busch, 2018) and Short Track U.S. Nationals (Raphael Lessard, 2018).
